| The QNET Board Governance Criteria
The QNET Board Governance Criteria is about
the effectiveness of boards, board processes, board outcomes, board governance, and other
areas relevant to board work. It is not about organizational operations.
The QNET Board Governance Criteria
can be used with a wide range of governance models. It does not advocate one model over
another, but you will see influences of a combined approach to governance.
The QNET Board Governance Criteria
is designed to enable not-for-profit boards to periodically assess Board performance
against a list of 23 Indicators.
Each Indicator is drawn from
established Principles of effective board governance. These principles cover
Organizational Purpose, Client Focus, Responsibilities, Communication, and Accountability.
Boards can verify that they are
meeting the overall criteria by showing Evidence of effectiveness against the 23
Indicators. Each board is unique and will have varying levels of evidence.
QNET has two assessment tools to
facilitate your board discussion of the criteria:
- Initial Assessment of Not-for-Profit
Board Practices
- Key Questions for Boards
